Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM EDT
Brunken, "Breathe," oil on canvas 44x52"
Event Description:
“I am interested in exploring the genius of the unconscious. I have a sort of conversation with the picture plane, pushing and pulling, developing a complexity in the picture—not something I meant to happen, but something more.”— Bill Brunken

Bill’s immediate style paints joyful observations with wild abandonment. His seemingly simple, free-wheeling constructs bring to mind what Picasso famously said: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Bill’s canvas work meets that challenge—a painter and ceramicist working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his bold impasto is perhaps a bleed-through of his ceramics practice in a less solid medium.

This is Bill’s premiere exhibit in Ohio. A frequent exhibiter in Pittsburgh, Bill’s work has been featured in galleries from New York to California, Oregon to Texas, and the Slovak Republic, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (Bratislava). Bill has worked in museums and galleries and taught at the college level, recently as visiting professor at Allegheny College (Meadville, Pennsylvania). Bill holds a BFA in Painting and Ceramics from Slippery Rock University (Pennsylvania) and an MA in Computer Science along with a MFA in painting from Austin State (Nacogdoches, Texas).
