Important Message About the 2020 OTR 5K:

Hello OTR 5K crew! We so appreciate you and your patience during this challenging time. As we continue to ensure the safety of our entire community, we are very sad to announce the official cancellation of the October 17th OTR 5K Walk/Run. 
 
While we know you will miss our infamous hills, twists and turns, we are working hard to bring you a fun alternative option during the holiday season! So stay tuned for more deets! In the meantime, please visit us on Facebook and Instagram for ways you can support our small business community here in OTR. Then get ready to be a part of our first ever OTR 5K Holiday Edition!
 
For you awesome runners/walkers who already signed up for our original 2020 race, here are a couple notes just for you! Presenting some options for handling your current registration: Please take a look and respond by end of day Friday, October 9, to info@racepenguin.com with the option you prefer.  
  • Donation: We ask that you please consider your registration a donation towards our organization, which is working hard to support our small businesses during a year unlike any other. We do this through providing educational support, connecting with resources, marketing campaigns and activations such as our new Second Sunday OTR initiative!
  • Deferral: You can choose to defer your registration to our 2021 5K, future date to be determined. 
  • Virtual: We have a virtual option coming your way! If you would like to participate with us virtually, send us a note. 
  • Refund: If you would like to request a refund for your race registration, please reach out to the contact email above.

About the Races:

  • OTR 5K – Registration includes timing, t-shirt, Taste of Belgium waffle, drink ticket (beer, soda, water) and option for bag drop/drawstring bag drop.
  • Kids Race* – Race registration includes a “quarter-mile” run for 5 and under, and a “half-mile” run for ages 6-9 years. All participants receive a bib, medal and t-shirt. *Children over 9 years of age are invited to participate in the OTR 5K! 
  • Awards – Rookwood Pottery medals will be awarded to top male and top female in each age category (see list below), along with:
    • Top 3 overall male
    • Top 3 overall female
    • First male and female with stroller
    • First male and female walker
    • Age Categories: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 -39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 -64, 65-69, 70+


OTR 5K Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When is the last day I can register online?
You can register online up until the race start. Just be sure to give yourself time to pick up your materials and get to the starting line! Register here.

What does registration include?
Registration includes timed chip start and finish, drink ticket (local beer, soda or bottled water), t-shirt, Taste of Belgium mini-waffle and option for bag drop/drawstring bag drop – all with the backdrop of an awesome OTR summer celebration! 

Is this only a run or can I walk?
You are welcome to walk or run. Strollers are welcome as well.

Who can participate in the run? 
Any 9 or over is welcome to walk/run in the OTR 5K. For younger kids, we offer a Kids Race at 10:00 am on the South Lawn: a ½ mile run for children ages 6-9, or a ¼ mile run for kids 5 and under. All Kids Race participants receive a bib, medal and t-shirt. 

Can I run with my dog?
Unfortunately, for safety reasons, dogs are not allowed on the course. But they can be spectators! And PetWants will be on site in the park. Also Washington Park dog park will be open! 

What is the route for the race? 
You can view the course map here .

Will there be water on the course? 
Yes! Close to mile 2, our friends at the OTR Brewery District will be providing water for you (beer comes after!) to get you to that finish line.

Where do I get my packet before the race?
Packet Pickup is at the Central Parkway YMCA, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 15 and all day (5:00 am - 9:00 pm) on Friday, October 16. On race day, you can pick up your packet at registration at Washington Park.

I can’t get to packet-pickup. Can my friend pick-up my packet? 
Yes! No ID required, they can just let us know your information and we will make it happen!

When is the last day I can register online?

Can I register on-site the day of the race?
We will have on-site registration for the race on Saturday, beginning at 7:30 am. 

Is there anything happening on Friday besides packet pick up?
We may be kicking off the Summer Celebration on Friday evening with Art on Vine vendors and local food trucks in Washington Park from 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Head to the OTR5k Facebook page for updates!

Are there medals for the race?
Rookwood Pottery Medals will be awarded to the top male and top female in each age category (14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 -39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 -64, 65-69, 70+) along with:
  • Top 3 overall male
  • Top 3 overall female
  • First male and female with stroller
  • First male and female walker
Where and when can I find my results from the race?
You’ll be able to see the results here as soon as the race has finished.  

Where does the money raised from the OTR 5K go?
Proceeds go towards attraction and retention of our incredible local businesses – who keep dollars staying local!
